A man left despondent by a family loss makes an arrangement through an intermediary, then changes his decision and tries to contact those involved in time. William Castle directed this 1944 American film-noir mystery starring Richard Dix, Gloria Stuart, and J. Carrol Naish. It was the first of Columbia's eight Whistler films, and the surviving presentation uses restored and colorized imagery.
