During the First World War, German submarine commander Hardt travels to the Orkney Islands on a secret assignment and encounters people with differing identities and loyalties. Michael Powell directed this 1939 British spy thriller starring Conrad Veidt, Valerie Hobson, and Sebastian Shaw. It was the first film collaboration between Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
